I'm a Canon / PC / JPG shooter.. anyone else? Don't shoot in RAW..Love to hear from those that do and their reasons why.. know why I don't.
-
-
RAW uses too much space & too much post-prod time & I have to convert to JPGs anyway for my lab to process. Convince me RAW is better.....
-
I always shoot RAW even when I used to do freelance journalism work. Maybe you need to look at improve/speed your post production process?
-
I use RAW because you don't lose any shadow or highlight detail & if it needs to be blown up to mural size you need lossless quality
-
-
@Loreen72 I use raw because it is what I shot at that moment,my settings-I use DPP for initial bulk proc and still have my (neg) to go to
-
I use RAW because I don't want the guy that wrote JPEG to set the sharpening, color settings and contrast in my photos. That's my decision
-
for its better quality and the ability to adjust afterwards, especially the white balance, which is hard to adjust beforehand. why too
-
much space? external hdd's are cheap nowadays. why too much time? I use Aperture, I'd suggest you try Lightroom on the pc
-
@falleri Actually creating custom white balance is EASY and you should use it for every shoot. Even with RAW - you are guessing at post.
-
that depends on the where and what you are doing. I am not taking that many photos of setups. Insects and other tiny things do not wait.
-
the ability to alter any problems. WB. color casts, etc. RAW gives you that opportunity. I shoot in both RAW and jpeg
-
@Bobsegal - Nice Response. That's the argument I use with my students about AUTO mode.
-
@falleri Just bought a book on how to maximize Lightroom - I HAVE to be missing something. No one would do this if it were always this slow.
-
@DivineAmbiguity Haven't tried shooting in both yet - but I did shoot my last wedding in partial RAW - just the dressing and ceremony.
-
@mistymaggie DPP? I don't recognize this.
-
@Loreen72 hmm.. well I don't use lightroom so can't say I know what the problem could be, sorry :( I love my aperture for post-processing...
-
@falleri I think once I get the hang of LR - I'll be okay w/ post. I've heard/seen great things w/ Aperture - love my PC though!
-
@Loreen72 haha! I used to love it too, until it was annoying me to death most of the time. I switched and I'm never, ever going back.. ;)
